Privacy notice
This site tells you about a sauce. It sells nothing, has no accounts and carries no advertising, so there is very little for us to collect.
What we collect
Every visit
Your IP address, the time of your request, the page you asked for and which browser you used. This happens on every visit to any website and cannot be switched off — a page cannot reach you without your request reaching us first.
Analytics, only if you agree
A banner asks whether you are willing to be counted. If you accept, Google Analytics records which pages you read, roughly which region you are in and what kind of device you used.
If you decline, or ignore the banner, none of that is stored.
We use it to see whether anyone is reading the site. We never use it to advertise to you. There is no cross-device tracking, no profile built about you and no audience list.
If you write to us
Your name, your email address and your message. That is all the contact form sends, and only when you fill it in and submit it.
You tick a consent box before it will send. That tick is your consent for one purpose: reading your message and replying to it.
One thing kept on your device
Your answer to the consent banner is remembered in your own browser so we do not ask again. It never reaches us. We set no advertising or tracking cookies, and nothing on this site is loaded from a third party that could watch you arrive.
Why we collect it
- Visit records — to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Analytics — to see which pages people read, and improve them.
- Your message — to read your enquiry and reply to it.
Nothing else. If we ever want to use your data for a new purpose, we will ask you first — a new purpose needs new consent.
Who else sees it
Google, as our service provider. It hosts this site, provides the analytics and carries your message to us. Google processes this data on our behalf and stores it on servers outside India, including in the United States.
The people who work on Alex's Sauce, so that someone can read your message and answer it.
Nobody else. We do not sell your data, rent it, trade it or hand it to anyone for marketing.
How long we keep it
- Your messages — twelve months, then deleted. If we are still in conversation, until that conversation ends. Ask us sooner and we will delete it sooner.
- Analytics — for the retention period set in Google Analytics.
- Visit records — under our host's own retention period.
When you withdraw your consent, or when we no longer need something for the purpose you gave it for, we delete it.
If you are under 18
Indian law treats anyone under 18 as a child, and requires a parent's or guardian's consent before a child's personal data is processed.
If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before using our contact form. We do not advertise to children, do not track them and do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe we hold a child's data, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what data we hold about you, and who we have shared it with
- Correct anything wrong, or complete anything missing
- Delete it
- Act on your withdrawal of consent
You can also nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to do so yourself.
Write to hello@alexssauce.com and ask. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no charge.
Changing your mind
Use Analytics preferences at the foot of any page. It reopens the banner, shows what you chose and lets you change it. Withdrawing takes the same two clicks as accepting.
If you accepted and then decline, analytics stops storing anything and the cookies already set are deleted from your browser. Measurements recorded before you changed your mind cannot be recalled.
To withdraw consent for a message you have already sent, write to hello@alexssauce.com and we will delete it.
How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to your message is limited to the people who need it to reply to you.
If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you, and we will tell the Data Protection Board of India, as the law requires.
Grievances
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, write to our Grievance Officer at hello@alexssauce.com with "Grievance" in the subject line.
We will acknowledge your complaint and respond within ninety days, as the law requires — sooner, in practice. If we have not resolved it to your satisfaction, you may take it to the Data Protection Board of India.
Which law applies
This notice is governed by the laws of India, principally the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the rules made under it. Indian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
Changes to this notice
We update this page whenever what we do with your data changes. The date at the top tells you when that last happened.
